Robert Clinton Donn passed on January 21, 2024 at the age of 77. He was born on August 22, 1946 to George and Mildred Donn of Brentwood, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Breen and his brother John Campbell. Rob is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Donn, brother George Donn and his wife Mary, and sister-in-law Peggy Campbell. He is father of Jane Wells (Donnie), David Donn (Wendy), Christopher Malloy, and Courtney Glasgow-Rinaldi (Jason). He is also survived by grandchildren Amanda, Michael, Kenny, Brittany, Kady, and Dominic, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rob was born and raised in Brentwood, MD and even as adults Rob, his parents, and his siblings all lived within a few blocks of each other. Rob and Cathy met in 1990 as he cared for his dad at home following his mother’s passing. Rob stayed in Brentwood until 1992, when his dad passed on as well. He and Cathy married, and he moved to Mitchellville, Maryland where Rob helped care for Cathy’s mom and raise daughter Courtney.
Rob worked for several years for Acme Door Company as a garage door installer and mechanic. Later he and his brother George formed a partnership and started Donn’s Garage Door Service. They worked together for many years until Rob retired in 1996 due to complications from psoriatic arthritis.
In 2001, Rob and Cathy moved to Charlotte Hall, Maryland, where they purchased a home surrounded by almost 19 acres of land. There he enjoyed working outdoors with Cathy in his garden and on his small farm. The land was perfect to continue his love of deer hunting with son David, his brother and nephews, and friends. And Rob developed a new hobby as a driver for several families in the Amish community, which resulted in wonderful friendships.
Rob loved flounder fishing at Chincoteague with his family and friends. He didn’t get to go back to Chincoteague in later years, but he talked about it frequently telling anyone who would listen about those good times. Rob and Cathy traveled when they could and enjoyed vacations to South Carolina, the Outer Banks, and Las Vegas, as well as a memorable New England road-trip and Caribbean cruise or two.
He was a true animal lover to so many pets. Dogs Bear and Kiska, Birddog Polly, a litter of puppies including Monkey, abandoned kittens Whitaker and Tyson, Patrick the peacock, 45 chickens, and stray cat, Miss Kitty, all adopted Rob over the years.
Rob began suffering from dementia in 2017. He was able to stay home until November 2022. After spending time in Georgetown Hospital and Sheppard Pratt Hospital, he moved to Promedica Nursing Home in Baltimore in May 2023. He made his final move to Stella Maris Nursing Home in November 2023 and received wonderful care and hospice support until the time of his passing.
Funeral services and burial will be held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home and Cemetery on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with service and burial to immediately follow.
Donations may be made in Rob’s memory to Stella Maris Hospice, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
