Russell Jason Vincent Hobbs (affectionately known as RJ,Vince and Junior) was born to Tyrone Hobbs Sr. and the late Barbara Pugh Hobbs on December 18, 1972, at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington DC. He died peacefully on October 7, 2022, at Mary Washington Hospital. We can be assured he is with the angels above because he received Christ at an early age and served Him until the end.
Vince received his elementary and secondary education in Prince George County Maryland. He graduated from Capitol College with a Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Electrical Engineering in May 1996. While in college, Vince was a volunteer for the Laurel (MD) Fire Department Engine 10. He worked for more than 25 years as a government contractor, specializing in Systems Engineering. A leader in his field, Vince held a Top-Secret clearance and was employed as a Senior System Engineer with a number of companies including CACI, Raytheon, L3, General Dynamics and Jacobs Technology. In addition to his special clearances, Vince held many illustrious certifications.
Perhaps, Vince’s job as System Engineer at Stanford Telecom was the most life changing. At Stanford Telecom, Vince met the love of his life and soulmate, Denise Ridgeway, in1997. Both of them shared a love for technology, computers and going to the movies. They married on September 9, 2000. This union was blessed with a son, Darius, who preceded him in death in 2002. In March 2003, Vince and Denise were blessed with a daughter, Victoria. Above everything, Vince loved being Vikki’s dad. A constant force in her life, he attended her basketball games, took Taekwondo classes with her (Black stripe belt), and shared his love of science. Vince was determined to make sure that Victoria had all the joy that life has to offer. And, he made no apologies for boasting about her accomplishments, both big and small.
Vince was a natural educator and leader. He was willing to share his knowledge and teach anyone who wanted to learn and understand. Because of this quality, Vince was nominated for the 2021 Black Engineer of the Year by his employer, CACI. He was extremely happy and humbled by this acknowledgement.
A consummate student, Vince loved to learn. In particular, he had a great interest in math, computers and history. A self-proclaimed “computer guy”, Vince’s hobbies included refurbishing computers for others, attending Medieval Renaissance festivals and cooking his famous “Thanksgiving Sausage Dressing” and sweet potato pie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Darius Christopher Hobbs, mother Barbara Hobbs, brother Herbert Hobbs and his dog Copper Hobbs.
He is survived by his devoted wife Denise, daughter Victoria, father Tyrone, brother Tyson (Sandee), in-laws James and Shirley Ridgeway, sister-in-law Sheree (Todd) Williams, several nieces and nephews (Ebony Mason, Donnell Contee, Vincent Hobbs, Sydney Hobbs, Tyson Hobbs, II, Milan Hobbs, Todd Williams, II, Jared Williams, and Daniel Williams) and a host of devoted aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
