Ruth Williams passed on June 20, 2026, at the age of 99. Born October 2, 1926, she will be honored with a Visitation on July 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at External Service Location, 712 Randolph St NW, Washington, DC 20011, US, followed by a Celebration of Life from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the same location. A Committal Service will take place on July 9, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 BLADENSBURG RD, BRENTWOOD, MD 20722, US.

A Life of Faith, Love & Grace

There are lives that quietly leave a lasting imprint on everyone they touch. Ruth Williams lived such a life. Her warmth, unwavering faith, tenacious spirit, and joyful heart blessed her family, friends, church, and community for nearly a century.

Ruth was born on October 2, 1926, in Edgefield, South Carolina, the late Will and Mamie Medlock. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles Williams; four sisters, Carrie Crawford, Willa Mae Brown, Chestine Proctor and Mamie Medlock; and her two brothers, George and John Medlock.

She attended Edgefield County Schools and was nurtured in the Christian faith at Republican Grove Baptist Church. In 1947, Ruth moved to Washington, D.C., with her beloved sisters—Carrie, Chestine, and Mamie—where she began a new chapter filled with opportunity, purpose, and hope.

After completing business courses, Ruth dedicated part of her career to serving children with disabilities through the District of Columbia government. She later enjoyed a distinguished career at Saks Fifth Avenue, where she faithfully served for more than thirty years before retiring in 1999.

On September 28, 1963, Ruth married the love of her life, Charles Williams (deceased). Together they shared years of love, companionship, and cherished memories until his passing.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., Ruth found great joy in worship, prayer, fellowship, and serving alongside her church family. Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life and guided the compassion, generosity, and love she extended to everyone she met.

Ruth found joy in sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking, making homemade ice cream, decorating her home, caring for her plants, and expressing her love of fashion. Though she had no children of her own, she treasured her nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends, always opening her heart and home to those she loved.

She will be remembered for her radiant smile, infectious laugh, determination, vibrant personality, and the kindness that made everyone feel welcomed and valued.

On June 20, 2026, at the age of 99, Ruth peacefully entered eternal rest at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Her legacy of faith, love, elegance, and grace lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
