Sharon received her early education in the District of Columbia Public School System. She later attended the University of the District of Columbia, Prince George’s Community College and Strayer Business College, majoring in Business Administration.
Sharon worked for over 40 years for the federal government at the Department of Labor, Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia (Department of Justice), and the Federal Communications Commissions. She retired in March of 2007, after a long and distinguished government career.
Developing an early interest in traveling, Sharon was fortunate to travel throughout the United States, Caribbean, South America, and Europe. She also enjoyed music, sports and the performing arts.
Sharon was a devoted daughter to her parents, a loving sister to her siblings, and a caring aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was a conscientious and dedicated worker who was admired by her colleagues and friends. Inspired by the magnanimity of her mother, she believed in helping others. She lived by the motto “if I can help somebody, then my living shall not be in vain.” Because of her generosity and altruism for family, friends and others, she will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know her.
Sharon leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Walter and Jasper; one sister Karliss McDonald-Smaw; nine nieces, Anita Clarke, Leslie McDonald, Darlene McDonald Kennedy, Lynette McDonald Briggs, Wanda McDonald, Maish Smaw-King, Linda Carter, Lori McDonald, and Lisa Chavis; eight nephews, Walter Carl McDonald, Derek and Grallin Butler, Craig, Vincent, Edgar, Jeffrey, and Glenn McDonald; three sisters-in-law, Janet, Carlita and Joann McDonald; and a host of grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, and friends.
