Sharon Diane Middleton entered the world and began her earthly journey on March 12, 1956 in Washington, D.C. She was the second oldest of five children from the marriage and union of the late Robert Sr. and Daisy Cooke. On October 30, 2019, Sharon’s journey concluded as she entered into eternal rest, peacefully, at her home in Clinton, MD. Sharon was courted by the tenacious and indomitable, Gardnell E. Middleton, who instantly fell in love with Sharon after their first introduction. The pair entered into holy matrimony on May 25, 1987 at Northeastern Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. The two were quite the bonded pair and were married for 28 years. They shared many years of happiness and enjoyed barbecuing together at family events, warm beach vacations, and dining out at new restaurants.Sharon received her early education in the District of Columbia Public Schools. After graduating from High School, Sharon began her professional career and ultimately became a Programs Support Assistant at the National Agricultural Library for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Sharon will always be remembered for her warm smile, her caring nature, and her devotion to her family. Sharon was a lover of animals, often helping the stray neighborhood dogs. She took pride in adopting our beloved family German Shepherd, Phoebe. Sharon’s sweet soul never said a bad word about anyone and she often saw the best in people. Sharon was also revered as the fashion icon within the family. She was the most stylish family member, often buying high heels and boots to add to her ever-growing shoe collection. Sharon was never too busy to give aid to anyone in need. Sharon was, at various times, a caregiver to her late mother, Daisy, and her husband, Gardnell, who suffered from an array of illnesses. She was also more than a proud and loving aunt to her goddaughter and niece, Lauren T. Smith, often providing guidance, support, and nourishment in her teens and early adult years. After Lauren moved to Los Angeles, Sharon dreamt of retiring in sunny California. Sharon, who was extremely close to her late sister, Karen Edna Smith, often thanked her sister for sharing Lauren to dote on and raise, after Karen’s unexpected passing in 2005. Sharon is survived by her goddaughter and only child, Lauren. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Sr. and Daisy Cooke, her younger sister, Karen, and her husband, Gardnell. Sharon leaves to cherish her memories, her brothers Robert Cooke Jr. (Susan), Byron Cooke, Gary Cooke (Donna), sister-in-laws, Anita Middleton, the late Denise Middleton Blango, her nieces, Tamara Blango, Gabrielle Cunningham, Denise Cooke, Tabitha Cooke, nephew, Gary Cooke Jr. Also included are many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a host of friends from allphases of her life
