Shelia Ann Croskey, aka “Tiny”, born on January 10, 1963, in Washington, DC, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 62, after a long battle with cirrhosis of the liver.
Shelia attended DC Public Schools and graduated from McKinley Tech High School. She later pursued a career in hospitality, with over 35 years of dedicated service to Safeway, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership, consistency, and growth as a Deli Manager. Throughout her tenure, she successfully managed operations across multiple store locations to increase high standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. Shelia’s commitment to excellence and her ability to thrive in low-producing environments left a lasting impact across the organization.
Shelia was a person who lived her life on her own terms. She faced many of life’s challenges with resilience, such as being “the mother” to her four siblings and managing their childhood home while their parents worked. She is remembered for being the cookout coordinator, the hostess for family gatherings, her no nonsense attitude, and her love of cooking. One signature thing about Tiny was her jet black pixie hair cut. She was also known for being the life of the party. If you know anything about Tiny, then you know she loved to dance. Her siblings often teased her for "shaking it like a white girl." If you ever attended one of the Atlantic City trips she hosted, then you enjoyed having fun just as much as she did.
She is survived by her three children: LaTisha Thornton, Rapheal Johnson, and Rondell Johnson. Ten grandchildren: LaZaria Bowman, Malachi Sanders, L’Niya Elliott, Kalaya Elliott, Rapheal Boddie, LaBria Birden, Aiyana Sipe, Kamelle Boddie, Jalen Townsend, and Rondell Johnson Jr. Four siblings: Anthony Croskey, Lane Croskey III, Bernadette Croskey, and Sadie Croskey. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and close family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie and Lane Croskey, Jr.
Her laughter and spirit will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.
