

Sherman Hicks was baptized into Christ at the Southeast Church of Christ in Washington DC in 1971, matriculating from Mount Union PA. At Southeast, Sherman taught Sunday morning Bible class and faithfully served on the Lord’s Table. Sherman took every opportunity to lead his family in Christ. As a family, they attended Sunday morning and Sunday evening worship, supported revival meetings, and they participated in cleaning the church facilities. In addition, Sherman passed out evangelism tracts and literature to anyone who would listen.
After high school, Sherman Hicks enlisted the United States Marines in January 1958, was stationed at Camp Lejeune NC, and rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. Sherman embarked for training tactics, including vertical envelopment, on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. Sherman played football while in the Marines, and also served in the National Guards in Washington DC.
Sherman Hicks career after the military began with Gifford Ice Cream where he made ice cream. Afterward, he worked for Hertz Rental Car as a transporter. From there, Sherman worked for Harry Diamond Laboratory as a government courier. While working for Harry Diamond Laboratory, Sherman enrolled at Lincoln Tech furthering his career with the company as a licensed Mechanic and an HVAC professional before retiring.
Sherman Hicks is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Wilsie Hicks; three brothers, Charles Hicks Jr., Leslie Hicks, and Roberts Hicks; four sisters, Leatrice Bennett, Barbara Alexander, Carrie Anderson, and Mae Frye. Sherman is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ollie Price Hicks; two daughters, Veronica L. Quander (MD), Jackie A. Laster (MD); one sister, Sylvia Peyton (Harrisburg PA); two brothers, Noval Hicks (Las Vegas NV), James Hicks (Las Vegas, NV) two grandchildren, Jamal T. Quander (MD), Kiana J. White (MD); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
