Shirley attended DC Public schools in Washington DC and extended her education in Dental Assisting at Armstrong.
On June 25th 1953, Shirley joined in holy matrimony with Andrew Gordon for 51 golden years. They had 7 children.
In 1969, she worked as a dental assistant and office manager for Dr. Louis Butler for 16 years. She served as the President of the National Dental Assistants Association 1978-1979. Receiving the Presidential Award for outstanding service. 1980-1984 she served as the President of the Capitol Dental Assistants Society.
In 1985, she changed careers and followed her creative heart and entered into the field of fashion. She worked at Hecht Company, Garfinkel’s and Lord and Taylor as a personal shopper and buyer. She received three Diamond Star Awards which is the highest award for customer service.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, daughter Constance, son Steven. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters – Andrea(Joe) and Terri, 3 sons – Frank(Barbara), Gary (Ellen) and Lance. 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great great grands, 2 sisters-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews and a devoted companion Robert Ford.
