Shirley Ann Witt, age 81 of Clinton, Maryland passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025. She was born on April 1, 1944, in Salisbury, NC. She was the beloved daughter of the late Carl H. Hawkins Jr. and Katherine B. Hawkins. Shirley was educated in the public schools of Rowan County.
Shirley was a brilliant woman, with a thirst for knowledge. She visited the public library often, to stay well informed, and up to date on current events. She was an avid reader. Her intellectual curiosity led her to a distinguished career at the Government Printing Office with over 20 years of service. She retired in 2003. Shirley had a lot of hobbies, which included sewing, crafting, canning and gardening. She was very excited when the Women’s National Basketball Association was established. She was an all-star basketball player during her school days. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her two sons; Timothy Witt (Johnnetta), Andre Witt (Sherrie), two daughters; Wanda Tinsley (Michael) and Kecia Witt-Robinson; 3 sisters Mary Hawkins, Audrey Charette and Kathy Worth (Johnny); 4 sisters-in-law, Margaret Hawkins Evelyn Phifer, Ann Knox and Ada Witte; 10 beloved grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Homer J Witt Jr. and brother Carl H. Hawkins III
