A graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Sidney devoted almost 50 years of his life in service to our country through the Department of the Navy. His service began by enlisting in the Navy and after achieving the rank of Lieutenant, he transitioned to civilian service in the federal government at the David Taylor Research Center as well as the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Retiring from federal service contributing to several government patents and publications, he finished his long career supporting federal research at Anteon Corporation.
Sidney’s most cherished roles were husband, father, and grandfather. He was devoted to his “sweetheart” Lois for 57 years; his children and grandchildren brought him great pride and joy. He led his family with a firm but loving heart, believed experiences are more fulfilling than possessions and that kindness and service are more important than words.
As a devout Christian, Sidney served as a deacon, teacher, choir member, softball team member and other leadership roles at Belair Baptist Church in Bowie, Maryland. Sidney is often described as a gentleman with a compassionate heart. His faith radiated in all that he did, and his warm presence left lasting impressions on everyone he encountered. He led his life in love, and would always ask, “How can I pray for you?” Even as his disease progressed, his gentle spirit was evident with a “thank you” or a kind word and an infectious smile.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform an act of kindness in remembrance of Sidney and if you feel inclined, support the American Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) in his memory.
