Steve Farrez Rogers was born July 29, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, the fourth child of Windell and Rebecca (Christian) Rogers. He is preceded in death by his father, Windell Rogers, Sr. and sister, Salynthe Rogers Williams, and the unforgettable Fifi.
Steve received his formal education through the Cleveland Public and Des Moines School Systems, and later attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA, Long Island University, Brooklyn NY, Heidelberg University, Heidelberg, Germany, where he studied business administration and become fluent in German.
While attending Drake University, he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc in 1979, and maintained close association with his line brothers until his demise.
Prior to returning to the Washington, DC area, Steve was employed in the Financial District of New York City. Upon his return to DC, Steve was employed by Xerox, CSX, Royal Caribbean and, most recently, Nordstrom’s.
From an early age, Steve had a zest for life, a high level of energy, and the ability to quickly endear himself to people. He was caring and deeply committed to his family and friends, and was of a tender heart that he would give his last to help man and beast. Attending family functions brought him immense joy. He was at his ultimate happiness by working in the hospitality industry. Steve was a member of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church, Washington, D.C. prior to his health deteriorating.
Steve, “The Professor,” or “Buddy Holiday,” was a hard worker, and lived his best life to the fullest. He loved to vacation in the warmer climates, such as Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Earlier this month, after a brief illness, Steve slipped away while at home in Falls Church, VA.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are: his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Gilliam of Cleveland Ohio; his siblings, Windell O. Rogers, Jr., Clinton, MD; Paulyette Rogers Evans, Farmington Hills, MI; Phillip (Carileen) Rogers, Brandon FL; and Jules Gilliam, Cleveland OH; special cousins Knoree Rogers; Michelle (James) Baker; a very special longtime friend, Robin Brooks; aunt Charlotte Rogers (Vernell) Tabron; uncle Jerry (Margo) Christian and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends; his Kappa Line Brothers; and Snakey Rogers, his three month old puppy.
For Steve, pain and sadness are over; for “The Professor” the exam is complete; for “Buddy Holiday,” the last song is sung…………
