Susan Eppie Susie Salena Fields was born to the union of Wm. Rozier Fields and Annie Coleman Fields on November 18, 1935. She grew up in Hamilton, Virginia, and attended the Loudoun County School System.
At an early age, Eppie followed her siblings to Washington, DC, and she flourished. She was blessed to work for the Reilly Family of Virginia and care for their daughter, Katie. Over the years of her employment, she traveled to many places with Katie. She poured into Katie like she was her own, and Katie poured into her as she grew older; the family is forever grateful for that connection. Eppie’s mission in life was to care for the children she encountered along her journey. She was never blessed with children, but God provided her with spiritual children, and she took that mission seriously by pouring goodness, purity, and specialness from within her into them and well as her family.
She balanced her employment by spending time with her family between Hamilton and Washington, DC. Sunday afternoons were a gathering of the three amigos, Mary, Rebecca, and Eppie. The trio enjoyed coffee and laughter. Her laughter filled the room as it hung in the air. Family was everything to her; she loved her family dearly and wholeheartedly: every niece, nephew, and cousin she was blessed to have. She was not judgmental and accepted you as you were. She loved her family and would pour her soul unto them; there was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family.
Whether it was a holiday or any day, it was special because she made it special. Her heart was pure, and her spirit was very childlike. As she began to age, she spent her final years at Malta House, Inc., in Chillum, MD, where she forged friendships and had all the comfort of home and excellent care.
Heaven rejoiced, and ancestors guided her to her new home in Glory on January 25, 2023; just as she shall welcome her family home when it’s time to go. Psalms 91: 1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in Him will I trust.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Wm. Rozier Fields, mom, Annie Coleman Fields, sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fields Crawford (Robert), Alice Virginia Fields Byams (Tillman), Rebecca Virginia Fields Carey (Edgar), brothers, Wm. Rozier Fields (Pearl), Lewis Charles Fields, Charles Andrews Fields, and Leroy William Fields (Betty). She leaves to cherish her memory, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Susan Eppie Susie Salena Fields was the last living matriarch of the family, and for some, the last living aunt of the family. She will be missed and the family is better because she loved them.
