Tara Marie Bacote

Tara left us suddenly on May 16,2025.She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister Brenda, brother Elliott III, nephew Marvin, niece Anastasia, and cousins Gene, Darcy, Angela, Cindy (Henry), and Debora. There are also additional cousins from the Hunter and Hylton families. Also left to mourn Tara is the Bacote family. Her parents Willie Bacote and Fannie Bell Kirkland and her cousin Augustus Hylton Jr. preceded her in death.In 2018, Tara took a pilgrimage to Darlington, SC to reconnect with her Bacote family. She was so happy to see them. After that experience, she purchased a new headstone for her father’s grave. Soon after that, Tara sought a closer relationship with God and became a member of Kingdon Fellowship AME Church in Calverton, MD.

Tara was born September 4, 1958 in New York City, New York.Her family moved to Amityville, New York when she was in elementary school. There, Tara was very social with her groups of friends. She graduated from Amityville High School in 1976. From there,she attended Pace University in New York City. During that time, she was living the city girl life. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1981. After a brief time in Newark, New Jersey, she made her way to Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, she continued to advance in her career and developed friendships that she cherished. In the 1990s, as her mother entered her senior years, Tara decided to move to the Washington, DC area where her mother and two siblings had settled. Tara always worked in the finance industry and her most recent job was as an Underwriter for the state of Maryland. She was set to retire on July 1, 2025.

Tara had an appreciation for the arts and enjoyed museums, art shows, Broadway and local theater, and live musical performances.She traveled often with her sister Brenda to many places including the Caribbean, Las Vegas, Mexico, on Cruises, east coast beaches, and to her old stomping grounds, New York City. Tara volunteered at the Bowie Interfaith Pantry for over ten years and she really enjoyed serving her community.
