Terry Scott was born on October 4, 1963, in Washington, D.C., to Ethel and James Scott. On November 25, 2025, Terry Scott was called home to be with the Lord. He was educated in the D.C. Public Schools and proudly graduated from Calvin Coolidge Senior High School in 1981.
He grew up in the close-knit Riggs Parks community in Northeast, Washington, D.C. A gifted athlete in many sports, he truly excelled in football. As a young boy, Terry played in the Lamond-Riggs Youth Football League throughout his elementary and middle school years. Though modest in stature, he played with remarkable strength, guts and confidence. As quarterback, on the Calvin Coolidge High School football team, he led with both grit and grace, guiding his team through a victorious season that culminated in winning the 1980 Inter-high Championship – a moment that remains a proud chapter in the community’s history.
His love for football continued as he went on to play at the University of the District of Columbia and later in the United States Army. He was enlisted in the Army from November 1989 to August 1995 and was honorably discharged.
Throughout the years, Terry worked at the Giant Food Distribution Center, Prince George’s County Public Schools and most recently at the Architect of the Capitol. In every workplace, he was known for his strong work ethics, reliability, and easygoing personality.
Above all, Terry was devoted to his daughter, Kiterra Scott, whom he loved dearly. Spending time with her was one of the greatest joys of his life. He was her biggest supporter and always encouraged her to be the best version of herself. Terry cherished their bond deeply and took pride in the young woman she has become. One of his proudest moments was watching her graduate from college.
Terry deeply valued time with his family and closest friends. He lovingly supported his parents, often running errands and lending a helping hand. He especially loved being around his brother and best friend Jay, his (late) nephew Lil Jay, and his lifelong friend Lou, with whom he shared countless laughs, memories, and good times. Terry, affectionately known as “Head,” was also a proud and loyal Las Vegas Raiders fan whose passion for football never faded. Whether watching a game, attending a sporting event, or debating stats with his father, he brought excitement and humor to every conversation. He will be remembered for his big heart, his joyful presence, and the love he poured into his family, his friendships, and the life he lived.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, James and Ethel Scott; his beloved daughter, Kiterra Scott. He is also remembered by Kim Whitmore, the mother of his daughter, who maintained a close relationship with the family; his four siblings, Roxann Brewer (Carl), James Scott (Pat), Rik Scott, and Jay Scott; and his nieces and nephews: Bobby (Shawna), Dionne, Leah, Richelle, and Ayanna. He is also survived by nine great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his nephew, ‘Lil’ Jay.
