

A beautiful life came to an end when Tilmon Levernon Bannister, Sr., age 53, departed his earthly home and entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Tilmon, the youngest child of the late Ella Louise Bowden and the late Ernest Hawthorne Bannister, Sr., was born on May 27, 1972 in Washington, D.C.
Tilmon is survived by two sons: Devernon Jordan and Tilmon L. Bannister, Jr., and one stepdaughter: Jasmine Bannister; 6 grandchildren: Jacob Bernard Goldring, Blaze Alexander Jordan, Amarah Ryanne Bannister, Amayah Rae Bannister, Shiloh Bannister, Jiya Bannister; 17 siblings: James Alston, Darryl Alston, the late Beverly Daniels, Ernestine Fuller (Gregory), Gordon Bannister (Katherine), Sarita Mubarak (Rick), the late DeCarlos Bannister, Cheryl Rogers, the late Everett Bannister, the late Ernest H. Bannister, Jr., the late Earle Bannister, Sr., Linda Bannister, the late Ernest J. Bannister (Paulette), Ernestine Evans (Darryl), Michelle Washington (Brian), Kenneth Bannister (Cheryl); and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Tilmon graduated from Eastern Senior High School where he was a member of the JROTC and Eastern High School Gospel Choir. Upon graduation from high school, Tilmon pursued a career in law enforcement with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department at the young age of 18. Tilmon served the DC Police Department for eleven years before having to retire due to a traumatic brain injury at the age of 29.
Tilmon enjoyed mentoring kids and served as a substitute teacher at Riverdale Elementary School and Massey Middle School after his retirement from the DC Police Department. Tilmon also volunteered and supported several charities and food banks.
Tilmon was a member at several DC Metropolitan churches over the years wherein he sang in the choir and served as both a Deacon and Usher.
Tilmon’s good humor and generous spirit touched everyone he met because he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Tilmon never let life’s challenges hold him back, even when he wanted to do something most people never even attempted to do. Tilmon enjoyed cooking, listening to music, attending concerts, plays, and traveling. Tilmon also enjoyed spending time with family and a select number of close friends (Robert Contee, Gene Davis, Jr., Gloria Tufts-Baines, Sherry Parrish and Janelle Robinson).
A visitation for Tilmon will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 BLADENSBURG RD, BRENTWOOD, MD 20722. A celebration of life will occur Friday, August 29, 2025 at 12:00 PM, 3401 BLADENSBURG RD, BRENTWOOD, MD 20722. A committal will occur Friday, August 29, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD 20722.
Service will be livestreamed beginning at 12PM.
