Mrs. Tracy Patricia McQueen of Washington, DC gained her wings on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Tracy was born on February 5, 1962 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late James William, Sr and Lillian Beatrice Adams.
Tracy was educated in DC Public Schools, graduating from Anacostia Senior High School in June, 1980. She decided years later to continue her education and briefly attended the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).
Tracy worked at Minnesota Liquor Store for many years, this is where she found her passion for service. While working at Minnesota Liquor store she met many people and developed long lasting relationships until she left in the late 80’s. In 1989, Tracy decided to take a different path and began her career as a Pharmacy Technician at the Safeway on 14th & Kentucky Avenue. Tracy had such a knack for providing great customer service that she received 26 commendations for Excellent Service. After 28 years at the Kentucky Avenue location, she relocated to the Safeway on Alabama Avenue, SE. During her 31 1/2 years at Safeway, she cultivated many new relationships with the staff, vendors and customers. She had such a wonderful personality that it attracted people to her no matter how they felt or what they were going through, she always made them feel special and they would leave with a smile on their face.
Tracy was passionate about life; she had a comforting spirit and a loving personality; she had a way of getting in your heart and leaving a lifelong impression. There was a warmness about her that wasn’t readily seen but always felt. Remember her big smile and boisterous laugh.
In 1983, she met her best friend Anthony “Tony” McQueen. They shared a special bond right from the start, but not the bond you think. Tracy gave him such a hard time when they met, she refused to give him her number and brushed him off but he was persistent. He left his number with her and said call me if you want, by the time he arrived home that evening, she had called him several times. I guess his persistence paid off. This bond between them, turned into a union and they married on April 13, 1994.
Tracy leaves behind her devoted husband and best friend of 38 years Anthony E. McQueen, their beautiful daughter Mapricionne “May May” McQueen and a caring step-son Ordale Allen. She also leaves to cherish her memories her loving siblings; Alice Ellis, Pastor Jamesetta Williams (William), James William Adams, Jr. (Peggy), James William Adams III, Beatrice Adams, John Q. Adams (Sharon), Dawnn Jackson, Kevin L. Adams (Teresa). Devoted nieces and nephews; Nathaniel J. Davis (Sabrina), Stephanie L. Coachman, Theresa P. Davis, Ricardo E. Coachman, Jamesetta Davis, Leon R. Adams, Camora Murdock, Regina B. Rice (Aaron), Laronda M. Adams (Aaron), Michael J. Adams, Zenobia Johnson, Angel Adams, Demek M. Adams (Kimberly), India R. Adams, Keenia R. Adams and a host of great nieces and nephews. Tracy was preceded in death by both parents James (Sweets) and Lillian (Bernice) Adams; her brothers Joseph Adams, Thomas E. If you knew Tracy…
You knew she had the best sense of humor and would have you laughing uncontrollably for hours even after the joke was over; you knew she loved her sunflower seeds (wouldn’t share with just anybody), popping that chewing gum (you heard her coming before you saw her), fried chicken gizzards from Minnesota Carryout, loved crabs, she loved popcorn, a variety of nuts, and Starbucks, she enjoyed playing cards (spades, bid whist, tunk), backgammon, she enjoyed puzzles (jigsaw puzzles and word search), she enjoyed Old School R&B and listening to Rock music, bumping her back on the couch while she sucked her thumb and used all the clean kitchen towels (Mama would tell her to keep the kitchen towel as soon as she put it in her hand), she loved walking and most of all she loved being around her family and friends cracking jokes and reminiscing.
