Vernecia Mae Tate Roberts was born on May 30, 1955, to the late Mary Tate and William Barnes in Hague, Virginia, Westmoreland County. She transitioned from this life on January 13, 2022, at George Washington Hospital.
In her early years, Vernecia accepted the Lord as her savior. At an early age, she moved from Hague, Virginia to Washington, DC with her family. She was educated in Westmoreland County Schools and the District of Columbia Public Schools.
Vernecia worked for the Knorwood Military Retirement Community, as a health care provider for 20 years, where she was very devoted to her patients. She loved her job and her patients and developed a personal relationship with them all.
On September 20, 2007, Vernecia married Harry Roberts and remained married until she departed this life.
Among many hobbies, Vernecia (also known as Vanessa and Grandma Nessa), loved to cook and shop. She had many signature dishes that everyone loved, and she enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Vernecia was a very giving person and fun to be around. Her laughs and smiles would brighten anyone’s day.
Vernecia was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Tate and her father, William Barnes.
She leaves many to cherish her memories: Husband; Harry Roberts, Son; Antonio Richardson (Renee), Four grandchildren; Asia, Antonio Jr., Amber, and Ashton. One sister; Tammy Stamp, One brother; James Tate, One half-sister; Linda Barnes, One half-brother; Tony Barnes, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for Vernecia will be held Monday, January 31, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. A celebration of life will occur Monday, January 31, 2022 at 10:30 AM, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. A burial will occur Monday, January 31, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, Maryland 20722.
