Warren Louis Gilchrist was born to the late Eddie Louis Gilchrist and Barbara Jean Gilchrist on May 30, 1953 at Freeman Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Warren was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System. He attended Kenilworth Elementary School, Carter G. Woodson Junior High School, and Joel Elias Spingarn High School. Warren became the proud father of Warren Louis Gilchrist Jr. with his former wife Gwendolyn Gilchrist Peek (Kelvin). Warren was a devoted, loving and loyal son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, first and foremost. Warren was a faithful employee for 25 years at the United States Postal Service, until he retired on disability. During his tenure as a supervisor at the United States Postal Service, he was a valued employee and received many awards for his exceptional work ethics and outstanding job performance.

In the spring of 1958, Warren was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Bethany Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. He served as an usher and was a member of the choir. Later, in life, Warren enjoyed attending services at Holy Cross Pentecostal Church with his grandparents and other extended family members. Warren loved to serve and give to those who were less fortunate. He supported Central Union Mission, Columbia Lighthouse of The Blind, The American Diabetes Association, The Lupus Foundation of America, and The Purple Heart Foundation. Warren enjoyed listening to the “Oldies but Goodies” soul music. He was an avid follower of local and world news, especially politics. Warren was a wiz at card games. He loved to watch football and basketball games. On Sunday evenings you would find Warren reclining in his easy chair cheering for his favorite team, The Washington Football Team. Warren relished watching old westerns and black and white movies, Warren was also fond of sitting on the back porch “to people watch”. And just for fun, Warren would get on “The Bus” to sightsee through Maryland. Warren was on a first name basis with all the bus drivers and passengers. Warren enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to laugh, sing, and dance. Warren was comedic. and charismatic and was always the life of any party. Warren always had a word of wisdom for family and friends.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord; Warren was called home to his eternal rest on April 3, 2021. He leaves behind to celebrate his life, his son Warren Louis Gilchrist Jr. (Shanna), grandson Kyle Warren Gilchrist, two sisters Alma Laverne Gilchrist Brannum and Angelita Saunders (Candy); nephews: James Brannum Jr. (Samedra), Miguel Morton, Se’Quann Jordan; Niece: Mone Morton; grand-nieces: Jazmin Tanner, Kennedy Brannum, and a host of other relatives. Also, last but far from lest, Walter Hagler (aka Boo) a dedicated life-long friend of 30+ years. Warren was preceded in death by his loving father Eddie Louis Gilchrist and mother Barbara J, Gilchrist. Warren will be laid to rest next to his father and mother at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
