

William Harvey Jones was born May 8, 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina to Andrew Wizard Jones and Hermenia Campbell Jones. He entered into eternal rest peacefully on April 30,2022 in Washington, D. C. where he had been a resident for many years.
He was predeceased by his mother, father and sister Andrea Jones Heyer.
William was a proud graduate of Burke High School in Charleston Class of 1965. He matriculated at the United States at WestPoint 1970-1972 and then was awarded a Bachelors degree (1974) an Masters of Science (1976) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Jones family believed in education as the way to over come the conditions in the very segregated South and William was a very avid learner.
After graduating and serving in the Army, William began traveling and eventually worked in Saudi Arabia and then retired from Investment Company Institute in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his Spouse, Linda Christine Hallahan Jones, Children - Jamal Jones, Candace Jones, Jaden and Michael Jones ,Grandchildren - Jaxon Hart and Rowan Streeter, Sister - Roberta Jones Greene and numerous relatives and friends.
His family will remember him as a loving and committed father. He spoke proudly about the fact that he was one of the first African American teenagers to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during a time when so many challenges were present in the South. Bill's sense of humor and infectious laugh were unique and his knowledge of World History was remarkable. He loved to share this knowledge with all who were interested. His particular passion was ancient Egyptian History and his collection of books and papers were amazing to see. His family will most particularly remember his love of traveling, his love of the beach and being by the water. He will be missed.
A visitation for William will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
