On July 24, 2020, God sent his angels to claim the soul of Wilma Jean Telesford, and welcomed her into eternal peace. Jean was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, On March 09,1947, the third child of the late Frankie Lee Gilchrist and the late Wilson Gilchrist.
She grew up with her loving grandmother, Corrie Higgins Holmes also known as “Big Mama”.
Jean accepted the lord at an early age with her family in Greenwood, S.C. shortly after they relocated to Washington, D.C.. Later, she completed her high school education at Eastern High School and attended Prince George’s Community College for Data Entry and Computer Programming. In 1964, she married Dennis A. Telesford, from this union Derrick F. Telesford was born.
Jean was a woman dedicated to strong work ethic, community service, youth empowerment, and family. She spent time mentoring young women, caring for youth in the community through babysitting opportunities, and serving as a member of the PTA for D.C. Public Schools. In addition to Jean’s community service, she worked at D.C. Metropolitan Police Headquarters, the U.S. General Accountant Office, and in the Federal U.S. courts for over 35 years in total.
Preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Cora L. Fennell and Christine A. White, and granddaughter: Cherise L. Telesford. Wilma Jean leaves her memories to be cherished by her devoted son, Derrick F. Telesford, her daughter-in-law Paulette Telesford, her grandchildren: Shawn L. Telesford (Shauntay Telesford), Natasha P. Telesford and Paige A.Telesford. Also, a devoted Aunt: Carrie Warren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
