Uncle Wilson was born on December 6, 1931 to the late Moses and Julia Walden Whitaker. His family moved to Tillery in the early 1940's; along with 17 other families from the Northampton County, NC area, Growing up in the Tillery Resettlement Community, he worked on the farm with his family and they were very progressive farmers. Uncle Wilson was educated in the Halifax County Public School System.
He departed this life on November 20, 2020 at Doctor's Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. As a young adult, he married the love of his life, the late Mary L. Smith who preceded him in death in February 2019. They were married for 65 years! He loved himself some "Bay"!
Uncle Wilson was the oldest and the last of his siblings. Those who preceded him in death were his four brothers: Tom Whitaker, Cliff (Buck Wheat) Whitaker, Moses (Jitty Bug) Whitaker, Conald (Mack) Whitaker, Sr. and his beloved sister Lola Mae Whitaker Williams.

Uncle Wilson later moved to Washington, DC where he made his home an became a loyal and faithful member of Capital Hill Church of God and Prophecy until his death. His church family was very special and we will forever be grateful to them!. Deacon Irving and his wife Margaret, along with others, went above and beyond to assist Uncle Wilson in any way they could as his health started to decline.
Left to cherish his fond memories, are his special nieces Barbara Bynum (Victor), Chesapeake, VA, Vickie Cheek, Tillery, NC, Jackie Whitaker, Richmond, VA, Pamela Stith, Silver Spring, MD, Tonja Williams (James), Fayetteville, NC, Danielle Artis, Crofton, MD, and Jennifer Dallis, Upper Marlboro, MD. His special nephews Donald Ray Whitaker (Alice), Scotland Neck, NC, Kerry Whitaker, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Jerry Whitaker of Richmond, VA, Conald Whitaker, Jr. (Pam), Richmond, VA, Adam Williams (Tamiko), Baltimore MD, Clifton Whitaker (Tara), Baltimore, MD, Stevie Griffin, Baltimore, MD, Rodney Williams, Greensboro, NC. Derrick Harris and his wife Teresa are the ones who took extra special care of Uncle Wilson and we will forever be grateful to them!
Also left to cherish his memories are his long time neighbor and friend, Mrs. Eldora Robinson, and a host of other nieces, great nieces, great-great nieces, nephews, great nephews, great-great nephews, cousins and friends.
Uncle Wilson was special, he was loved by all and it wasn't anything he wouldn't or didn't do for anyone! He especially loved his babies and they will forever cherish his memories; Joshua "Josh" Bey, Janelle "Cakes" Coleman, Gabrielle "Gabby" Harris, Savannah "Nanny" Harris, Micah Artis, Morgan "BamBam" Artis, The Mickey Mouses' and KeKe!
Uncle Wilson loved German chocolate Cupcakes, Hershey's Kisses and a cold pepsi.
