

Yashica Lezette-Monic Joyner Aikens, affectionately known as Shica, passed away on January 24, 2025, at Christiana Hospital in Delaware after a brave battle with ovarian cancer. Born on August 30, 1973, at Columbia Hospital in Washington, DC, she was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond Joyner and Jean Kyler, and stepdaughter of Lawrence Kyler.
Shica's educational journey was marked by dedication and excellence. She attended Dogwood Elementary and St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, graduating from Forestville High School in 1992. Pursuing her passion for business, she earned her degree from Trinity College. Her career journey lead her to work at various government agencies, culminating in her role as an Account Sales Manager at Sallie Mae.
A gifted singer, songwriter, record producer, and promoter, Shica's life was deeply enriched by her love for music. She spent countless hours in the studio with her cousin, Benjamin Kyler, and sister, Ramona Joyner. Their collaborations, including the coproduced and co-written single titled "Blessings". Her affinity for the infinity symbol and hearts was so profound that she had them tattooed on her, symbolizing her endless love and passion for her family.
On October 11, 2016, Shica married Kevin Aikens, beginning a new chapter full of love and joy. The couple moved to Delaware on April 26, 2016, where they established a warm and loving home. Shica was a devoted mother to her children, Sierra Spriggs and Jordan Magloire, and a caring stepmother to Kameron Aikens, Dakota Aikens, and Kyron Aikens. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support were the foundation of her family.
A beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, family was at the core of Shica's life. She was a loving sister to Ramona Joyner and Sharon Holtzclaw, and stepsister to Tracey Blackwell and Joyce Kyler. As an aunt, she showered her nieces and nephews—Shaundale Holtzclaw, Delshaun Holtzclaw, Jovon Joyner, and Jazmin McRae—with love and guidance.
Her extended family included her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Veronica and Reginald Aikens, and father-in-law Antonio Brandon. Her sisters-in-law, Chanel and Chanta Aikens, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Kyler family, also held a special place in her heart.
Yashica's courageous battle with ovarian cancer was marked by strength and hope, inspiring her family and friends. Her legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will continue to inspire those who knew her. Yashica's memory will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
A visitation for Yashica will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Little Church at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 BLADENSBURG RD, BRENTWOOD, MD 20722, followed by a celebration of life at11:00 AM.
