

Angelena was born on March 16, 1920 in Oshkosh, NE to Agostino “Gus” and Johanna “Bessie” (Lorenzini) Peonio. Lena attended grade school and high school in Broadwater, graduating in 1938. She also attended Chadron State College and became a teacher. She taught in rural schools and Bridgeport Grade School. On December 21, 1952, Lena married Clifford Middleton at her parent’s home. To this union, three children were born: Clifford Jr., Donald and Susan.
Lena farmed with her husband until his death in 1992. She remained on the family farm until the time of her passing. Lena enjoyed raising chickens, her large gardens and sharing produce with friends and family. She loved making jellies and was famous for her homemade horseradish that she gave as gifts. Her grandkids especially loved her bean soup and her turkey dressing. Lena was a 4-H leader for many years and served as a school board member. She was an avid wrestling mother and enjoyed country living. Lena loved watching, cheering and then threatening to turn off the NE Husker games. She was a mother first; always putting her children’s needs before her own.
Lena was a charter member of Legion Auxiliary Post 312 which was formed in 1946. She remained an active member for 69 years. Lena was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater.
Her husband Clifford, daughter Susan Siffring, sister Augustine “Tina” Rhodes, brothers Frank, Carlo, Joe and Amelio “Shorty” Peonio preceded her in death.
Lena is survived by her two sons, Clifford and Donald both of Broadwater; Son-in-law Ed Siffring of Ulysses, NE; special niece Jean Rhodes, Ex daughter-in-law Janell Delcamp Adams; Grandchildren: Jenna Middleton of Seattle, WA, Kaitlin (Brodie) Parsons of Denver, Ethan Middleton of Denver, Kyler (Lyndsey) Middleton of Ft. Collins, Kramer Middleton of Scottsbluff, Kelli Middleton of Gering and Tru Siffring of Lincoln; great granddaughter Charlie Parsons; special “daughter” Linda (Rudisil) Kosmicki and many nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 6th at 10:00 A.M. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater with Ann Bairn, PMA officiating. Memorials may be given to the Broadwater Rescue Unit and the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.bbchapels.com.
