Gary G Franklin

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bridgeport with Pastor Allen Strawn officiating.  Interment will follow at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m. and an hour prior of service at the church on Tuesday. 

Memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Rural Volunteer Fire Department. 

Gary was born January 20, 1938 at home in Bridgeport, NE to Glen and Charlotte (Smith) Franklin. He attended school at Rocky Ridge and District 1. In 1957, he graduated from Bridgeport High School. On September 27, 1959, Gary was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean White at Oshkosh, Nebraska and to this union three children were born. 

He started farming shortly out of high school and farmed for over 50 years. He achieved the honor of the Great Western Sugar Company “High 10” Station award for several years. Gary’s life was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Rural Fire Department and served as a board member. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

He loved fishing, but his main passion was feeding cattle and raising corn.

He is survived by his wife; son Todd (Melody) Franklin of Bridgeport; daughter Lori (Ed) Donohoe of Kearney; son Jeff (Valerie) Franklin of Fruita, CO; brother Larry (Carol) Franklin of Torrington, WY; sister Jana Lou (Fred) Flessner of Kearney; granddaughters Alyssa (Scott) Wewel, Leicy and Breanne Franklin; grandsons Andrew and Grady Donohoe, Jonathan, Joey and Jeremy Franklin and Justin Bueno.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brother-in-law.
