A memorial graveside will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:00 am at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Military honors provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard and the Sons of the American Legion, Bridgeport.
Glen was born on December 22, 1934, in Broadwater, Nebraska to the late Antonio (Tony) and Agnes (Covalt) Amateis and grew up on their farm outside Broadwater. Glen attended Bridgeport School and graduated in 1953.
In the winter of 1954, Glen enlisted in the United States Army where he specialized in artillery, rank of Private First Class. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Dixie Houk. To this union, 2 children were born: Scott and Karis. He was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1962. After returning home from the Army, Glen returned home to farm alongside his dad. While still farming he found himself a job at Egging Company, as a welder. An opportunity came up for him and Dixie to purchase the Oasis in Bridgeport, followed by them opening Glen’s Country Pizza. Glen then decided to add another job to his resume as a feed salesman with Coop. He began to deliver liquid cattle feed. In 1998 he turned Glen’s Country Pizza into a feedstore, Double A Feeds. He won many awards for the most tons of feed sold. Glen loved to be at the store.
He served on the Morrill County Fair Board, Morrill County Veterans Board, Morrill County Sheriff Posse, and was a 40-year member of the Eagles F.O.E. 2813.
He was passionate about his yard, he loved to fish, camp, and take motorcycle rides. He liked to deliver feed. He tried his hand at the electric guitar and at being a taxidermist. Later in life he loved trips to casinos with Dixie and his brother-in-law, Ted.
Glen was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had a caring heart for those around him. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: welder, mechanic, farmer, feed salesman, contractor- he could fix or build anything.
He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends, customers and family. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, wit, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed.
