Richard “Dick” Alvin Stull, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, after a life marked by devotion to family, faith, agriculture, and banking. Born on December 1, 1941, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Leslie A. and Dorothy V. Stull, Dick was the fifth of six children. He was raised on the family farm in Box Butte County during the years of World War II, an era that shaped his strong work ethic and appreciation for community and country.
Dick attended Rural District #58, graduated from Alliance High School with the Class of 1959, and continued his education at Boise Junior College, Chadron State College, and the Colorado School of Banking. He remained a lifelong learner and advocate for agriculture and banking, serving on the Nebraska Bankers Association Lending Committee, including a term as chairman.
On August 31, 1963, Dick married Dorothy “Dot” Clare Beal, the love of his life and devoted wife for nearly 52 years. Together they built a strong and loving family, raising seven children, welcoming eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, with a seventeenth great-grandchild on the way. Dick often credited Dot for her unwavering support, encouragement, and partnership throughout every chapter of his life.
Faith was the cornerstone of Dick’s life and guided his actions, relationships, and service to others. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and was deeply committed to his parish. He generously shared his time and talents through many areas of parish life. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, was an active member of the Parish Council, and was deeply involved in the Knights of Columbus, where he found fellowship and opportunities to serve his community. He also participated faithfully in the That Man Is You men's group, strengthening both his spiritual life and his commitment to living out his faith as a husband, father, and friend. His unwavering devotion to God and the Church left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Dick dedicated more than 60 years to the banking profession, serving communities throughout Nebraska across seven decades. He began his career at The Guardian State Bank in Alliance in 1963 and went on to serve in leadership roles at the Bank of Valentine, The Bridgeport State Bank, Western Bank, Western Nebraska National Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and later Farmers State Bank, now known as Nebraska Bank.
In 2011, alongside family members, he helped acquire and grow Farmers State Bank, expanding its presence in western Nebraska. He took immense pride in the employees, customers, shareholders, and communities that became part of the Nebraska Bank family. His career was marked by steadfast leadership, a commitment to agricultural lending, and a deep belief that community banks play a vital role in the success of rural America.
