

Vergil Lee Frickey went to be with the Lord and his Heavenly family and friends on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Regional West Medical Center at the age of 81. Vergil fought a long battle with complications from diabetes.
There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place per Vergil’s request. There will be a private burial at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the diabetes association. Bridgeport Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Vergil was born September 19, 1934 at home east of Bridgeport, NE weighing in at four pounds to Marshall and Lillian Frick Frickey. Vergil was the oldest of nine children. Vergil attended school at Bridgeport. He was first employed at the County of Morrill highway department part time while in school. He later became full time as a maintainer operator building and maintaining roads. Vergil then became the foreman, and worked for the county until his retirement in 1996.
Vergil married Judy Kay Brothers on January 18, 1954 at the Presbyterian church in Alliance, NE God blessed this union with 62 years and two daughters and two grandsons.
Vergil lived all his life in Bridgeport except for the two years (1957-1959) that he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Vergil reached the rank of sp4. He was stationed at a Nike Ajax missile site at Old Fort Niagara New York. Vergil was a senior launcher crewman. Vergil was honorably discharged at Fort Sheridan in Chicago Ill.
Vergil was very much a family man and loved all his family. He enjoyed TV, Husker and NFL football, hunting, camping, working on engines, repairing broken things and his yard. Vergil loved to talk of the old days and loved telling everyone about them. Vergil was given Boss of the Year by the Jaycees at one time. Vergil was baptized at the First Baptist Church and was a member. Vergil never missed a sermon by Pastor David Jeremiah for the last few years.
Vergil is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Regina R Stover of Bridgeport and Marcelle D (Bruce) Dalton of Ft. Collins, CO; grandsons Kyle A Dalton of Loveland, CO and Scott J Dalton of Fraser, CO; brother Dale (Sandy) Frickey of Bridgeport, NE, sister Norma (Bob) Hecht of Broadwater, NE, sister Audrey (Joe) Viola of Bridgeport, NE, sister Betty (Nat) Lopez of Bayard, NE, sister Margaret (Rick) Newkirk of Broadwater; sister-in-law Sharon Frickey of Bridgeport, brother-in-law Ray Cranmore of Broadwater and numerous nieces and nephews in the area.
Vergil was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Lillian Frickey, grandparents Jake and Mary Frick, John and Leta Frickey, brother Roy Frickey, sisters Linda Frickey and Kathy Cranmore, nephews Devin Frickey and Tom Hecht.
