Virgil R Roebuck

  His graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard.  Virgil was born August 28, 1925 at Reliance, South Dakota to Jake and Esther (King) Roebuck. He was the 10th child of a family of 16. He came to Bridgeport in 1936 and worked on ranches and farms and for Gary’s Implement for 30 years.

   He entered the U.S. Army on April 18, 1944 and served during WWII as a paratrooper.  He was honorably discharged on May 14, 1946.

 Virgil was united in marriage to Dorothy Leas in 1952 in Bridgeport and to this union 4 daughters and one son were born.

 He enjoyed participating in rodeos where he rode saddle bronc and bareback.  His passion was fishing with his biggest catches being salmon in Anchorage, Alaska.

 Survivors include his wife of 62 years; brother Tom Roebuck; sisters Joan Adamy and Wila Snell; daughters and sons-in-law Kathy (Bill) Ewert, Paula (Bill) Schlaepfer, Lori (Dennis) Eskam and Denise (Russell) McKay and son and daughter-in-law Steve (Robin) Roebuck; grandchildren Stacey (Jonathan) Kahl, Sarah (John) Ewert, Brittney Flores, Kaitlin Moss, Josh (Doneta) Schlaepfer, Mandi (Tyler) Barry, Nicole and Kelsey McKay, Jessica (Rudy) Dominguez, and Shelby (Kyle) Spaur; step grandchildren Craig (Jolene) Conway and Cheree (Hal) Fisher; great grandchildren Kelynn Ewert, Kyhler Kahl, Dylan Ewert, Oscar, Aron, Erika and Jenna Flores, Isabella Russel, Zacarie Moss, Madie and Tristian Schlaepfer, Jack and Charlie Barry, Elly and Emmery Dominguez, Lucas and Addison Spaur, Gillian Conway and Kayden and Shelby Fisher.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, seven brothers, grandchild Jamie Lea Schlaepfer and great grandchild Audrey Dominguez.
