Stephen M. DeSerio

Stephen was born on May 26,1976. He was raised in Patterson, NY, and attended Carmel HS.

Despite being afflicted with cerebral palsy, Stephen earned his BA and Master's in Education (GPA 3.96!) at Mount Saint Mary College in NY. He taught children with special needs at P.S. 168 in the Bronx and set up his own company (smdaba), educating not only children with autism, but also empowering their families with tools to help their children reach their highest potential. He also did volunteer work accompanying disabled adults on outings to places like Yankee Stadium and the Botanical Gardens. Stephen's 2-year battle with cancer was a more than courageous one. He never gave up, dealing with every new problem with grace and dignity, always gifting all with his beautiful smile.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Alexandra, and their two-year-old son, Sebastian; parents Mark & Marie DeSerio of Patterson, N.Y.; sister Laurie Altomari and husband Frank and their sons Jesse & Deacon of Newfields, NH; brother Mark and wife Heather of Carmel, NY and their children Matthew & Amanda; sister Lisa of New Milford, CT; cherished grandparents Roma DeSerio of Thiells, NY and Millie Curro of Bronx, NY.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday September 30th at 10:00 a.m at the Church of Saint Gabriel 3250 Arlington Avenue, Bronx, NY 10463 (718) 548-4470.
