
Commander William Clark King, USN Retired, 83, died peacefully in his sleep at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, New York on December 27, 2011. He was born in New York, NY to Thomas J. King and Ellen Elizabeth Clark King and attended the Birch Wathen School in Manhattan. He was in the class of 1949 at The United States Naval Academy and received a Master’s degree from George Washington University. He was part of the U.S. 7th fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan, and traveled all over the world in his 20 year Navy career. After retirement from the Navy, he worked as a program manager for the Litton Industries in Los Angeles, CA and Pascagoula, MS. He was a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi for many years, where he loved to sail with his wife, Elizabeth King.
His parents, his brother, Thomas J. King, his sister, Elaine Hahn, and a son, John Thomas King, predecease him.
Bill enjoyed genealogy and spent many hours at the New York Public Library pursuing his passion. He also loved the company of his grandchildren and the children in his apartment building.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth B. King, of New York, NY, 6 children, Ellen Smith (Michael), Miriam King, Alice Weber (Keith), Peter Clark King (Kristen), Judith King, Rosemary Wharton (Ned) 8 grandchildren; Lauren E. Phillips (Chip), Caitlin E. Bebb, Sarah Bebb, Robert C. Wharton, Mariah E. King, Emma P. King, Lucas King Weber, and Hope M.Weber; and 1 great-grandchild. Franklin Hadley Phillips IV.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, arrangements pending.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Calvary Hospital for their compassionate and comforting care.
