Freda J. Bowman

Dr. Freda Joy Bowman, born on January 12, 1960,

departed this heavenly earth on January 17, 2024.

Freda was preceded in death by her loving parents,

Credell Bowman, Sr. and Florida (nee Williams) Bowman.

She was most recently preceded in death by

her eldest brother, Credell (Marvey) Bowman, Jr.

Freda leaves behind to cherish her memory her siblings,

Glenn Alan (Amy) Bowman, Jewel (Cliff) Johnson,

Constance (Skeet dec’d) Jackson, and James Bowman.

Freda was beloved and admired by many nieces,

nephews, and cousins. She also held a special

place in her heart for the Dantzlers, her God family.

Freda attended college at Southern University in

Louisiana (1982) continuing on to Meharry Medical

College and obtaining her Doctor of Medicine Degree (1989).

She completed her residency program in obstetrics and

gynecology at Wayne State University School of Medicine

in Detroit (1993). Freda then practiced as an OB/GYN in

Michigan and Texas, ultimately opening her private practice

in 2007. In 2014 Freda chose to return to Louisiana to

care for her ailing mother. To have more time, she pursued

a new career as a medical consultant and college instructor.

Freda eventually moved to San Diego in 2018 and

enjoyed big city life for a number of years. Sadly, in

early 2022, she received her pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

It may be cliché to say Freda was a warrior, but she never

stopped fighting the battle until her Savior called her home.
