Gail Ellen Luck, age 78, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on October 17, 2026, while enjoying a bicycle ride with her beloved husband, Gary, along the Great Allegheny Passage in Pennsylvania.
Born on November 12, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gail grew up surrounded by the love of her parents, Walter and Helen Mantz, and her siblings, Ned and Lynn. From an early age, she developed the values that would guide her throughout her life—a deep and abiding faith in God, an unwavering devotion to family, and a genuine love and concern for others. These qualities became the foundation of a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and countless cherished memories.
Gail and Gary shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a beautiful life together rooted in faith, family, and a shared love of adventure. They were not only husband and wife but partners in all that life had to offer. Whether traveling the world, enjoying their time in Florida, riding their bikes, playing pickleball, or simply spending time with those they loved, they embraced life's experiences side by side. Their enduring love and companionship were a beautiful example of a life built together.
Above all else, Gail's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her son, Garrett (Ann) Luck, and her daughter, Katie (Joel “JB”) Nelson, and an incredibly proud grandmother to Taylor (Luck) Nelson, Caden Luck, Wyatt Luck, Gabriel Nelson, and Eli Nelson. Her grandchildren held an especially treasured place in her heart, and she delighted in every opportunity to be part of their lives.
For Gail, love was something you showed through your actions. It was found in the countless hours she spent babysitting, the family dinners she looked forward to, the Sunday afternoons gathered around the pool, and the simple joy of being together. She was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved, and nothing mattered more to her than knowing they were happy, safe, and cared for. She gave generously of her time, her energy, and her heart, always putting the needs of those she loved before her own. The memories she created so effortlessly through everyday moments will be among the gifts her family treasures most.
Gail's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her relationship with God was a source of strength, comfort, and joy, guiding not only what she believed but how she lived. She had a deep and unwavering trust in the Lord, and her faith was reflected in the kindness she extended, the generosity she showed, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. She lived her beliefs quietly but meaningfully, leaving behind an example of faith in action and a legacy that will continue through the generations of her family.
Gail embraced life with enthusiasm, warmth, humor, and determination. She had an adventurous spirit and a love for experiencing new places, making memories, and staying active. Whether exploring a new destination, enjoying a bike ride, or sharing a laugh with family and friends, she approached life with energy and a desire to make the most of every moment. Those fortunate enough to know Gail will remember her caring heart, her devotion to the people who mattered most, and the extraordinary lengths she would go to ensure their happiness and well-being.
Though her passing was sudden and heartbreaking, Gail leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories that will never fade. Her family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life and the knowledge that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior. While she will be missed beyond words, her love will continue to be felt in the family she cherished, the traditions she helped create, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched.
Her life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and devotion, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service honoring Gail will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 1209 N. Broadway, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Following the service, family and friends are warmly invited to gather for a celebration of Gail's life in the church's adjoining event space. Together, we will share stories, laughter, refreshments, and the many cherished memories of a woman who meant so much to so many.
A private interment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park at a later date.
