Richard Listau passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on July 5, 1947, in Mühldorf, Germany, to the late Wilhelm and Agathe Listau. In 1952, the family immigrated to the United States aboard the USS General M. L. Hersey, arriving through Ellis Island. Richard was raised primarily in Milwaukee before being drafted into the United States Army in January 1967. He served for two years, spending much of his service in Panama.
Richard lived in Wisconsin for most of his life. He raised his two children, Theresa and Michael, in Germantown and worked for Ameritech phone company before retiring “up north” to Wausaukee. Richard enjoyed fishing, gardening, boating, and spending time with friends and family. Later in life, he moved to Virginia to be closer to his family, including his grandchildren Kaelie, Owen, and Andrew.
Richard will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to his family. Carrying on the Listau family name was deeply important to him, and he took great pride in his grandchildren and the legacy they represent.
Richard is survived by his children: Theresa Driessen (Eric) of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Michael Listau (Lynsey) of Pensacola, Florida; his grandchildren: Kaelie and Owen of Williamsburg and Andrew of Pensacola; and his sisters Olga Badalamente and Lydia Preiss. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Alma Koepp, and brother Albert Listau.
Visitation will begin at 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Wisconsin Memorial Park’s Chapel of Flowers, 13235 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin, 53005.
