Alyce and I grew up on Sonoma Street in Roxbury and she was my first friend. We walked to school together, played in each other's houses until her family moved to Newton. Other than her sister, Phyllis, the family does not know me. But you never forget your first friend. Alyce took piano lessons but did not like to practice. She taught me her lessons and often I would practice for her when her mom was making dinner. We always laughed about that.
Please accept my sincere condolences and let Phyllis know how sorry I am for her loss.

Alyce was the best person I ever knew with small children!
And when they got older, she had superb advice for them on
education and job prospects. All of her children and grandchildren
knew they could always count on Alyce for good solid Jewish-mother advice and perhaps some cash. And while they were receiving advice, they
would be fed well.
