Arnold B. Offen, of Chestnut Hill on Friday, September 22, 2023 at age 87, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health.
For 64 years he was the beloved husband of Myrna (Mould). Devoted father of Michael Offen & his wife Nancy, Scott Offen & his wife Grace and Liz Offen & her husband Ethan Mascoop. Loving “Saba” of Sophie, Jacob and Shmuie Offen, Ben, Joey and Annie Offen, Josh and Daniel Mascoop. Son of the late Maurice Louis and Annie Rose (Strock) Offen of Brookline, and brother of the late Allan and Herbert Offen and Anna Mae Brandt. Fondly remembered uncle and cousin.
As a young boy Arnold spent happy summers in Hull on Nantasket beach. He attended many schools including Williston Academy followed by Culver Military Academy where Arnold was a proud member of the Black Horse Troop. Arnold attended Columbia University and later served in the National Guard.
Over the years Arnold was an entrepreneur working in a variety of fields and businesses from medicine to food manufacturing to imports. He was a volunteer with Sunday’s Bread in Boston and Project Ezra for many years and served on several committees at Temple Emanuel of Newton where he and Myrna belonged for over 55 years. Arnold was a lifelong reader and had a strong affinity for history. He felt strongly about his Judaism and took classes at MEAH, Bolli at Brandeis, and studied at The Kollel.
Family was extremely important, and he especially cherished his 8 grandchildren and was proud of each of them. He reserved his greatest devotion to his life-long love, Myrna. They met at Mount Vernon Camp in Pride’s Crossing in Beverly, MA and remained sweethearts for over 64 years. Together they loved traveling, taking cruises, attending opera, concerts, and art shows. Arnold had a big personality, loved to give advice and was just a really memorable guy who will be missed.

Due to the Yom Kippur holiday, shiva will be observed by the Offen family at 538 Ward Street, Newton on Sunday from 1-3pm only.
