Arnold Selig of Boston, MA passed away on September 10, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born on December 10th, 1937, in Boston, MA, where he grew up with his brother Mitchell. He graduated from Newton High School and moved to Philadelphia, where he obtained his degree in Statistics from Temple University.
With a natural knack for numbers and a passion for helping his community, he worked as Statistician for the City of Philadelphia Public Health Department for many years. After retiring early, he turned to his true passion – Bridge – where he quickly obtained a Life Master Status.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Abby Hornstein and Mr. Eli Selig; their spouses, Dr. Mark Hornstein and Mrs. Akiko Okunaga; his grandchildren Sam, Shira, and Leo; his sister-in-law Maxine and her family; and numerous cousins and close friends.
Arnold was a man who cared very much about helping others. Often, he would go out of his way to drive the elderly in bad weather or volunteer his time to deliver food to those in need. His acts of kindness were not limited to those he knew, even buying meals or paying off parking meters for complete strangers. He most enjoyed spending time with the family and friends who loved him dearly.
The family would like to thank Hebrew Senior Life for the care they showed our loved one in their final days. They made his last years easier and showed great compassion for him.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral held at Boylston Lodge Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA, on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his honor to the Terezin Music Foundation or Hebrew SeniorLife.
