Barry D. Andelman

A graduate of Brandeis University and Hebrew Teachers’ College, Barry was a lifelong Judaic scholar and a dedicated educator in the Boston Public Schools, in private Hebrew Schools in the Greater Boston Area, and as a science/nature teacher to countless summer camps. Barry’s interests were broad and eclectic: a passionate supporter of all things Boston, he became a consultant to the Boston tourist board and the MBTA Board, and was prominent in Boston’s theater world as interviewer and devotee of the arts. He traveled the globe to study other cultures, also becoming an expert on mass transportation systems by visiting every city in the world that had one. To the end of his life, Barry’s thirst for learning was never slaked.

Son of the late Louis and Rose Post Andelman of West Roxbury, he was the beloved father of Jenna Andelman (Gavin Steyn) of Newton, MA and Rabbi Julia Andelman of Teaneck, NJ; and loving grandfather of Moshe, Raphael, Noam, Amitai, Aderet, and Tal. He was the beloved brother of sisters Dr. Ronda Goodale of Brookline, MA and Joan Andelman (Joe Davis) of Nyack; he is also survived by cherished nephew Chandler Goodale, nieces Lara Goodale Jarrell (Justin Jarrell) and Adena Walker, grand-niece Brooke Jarrell and grand-nephew Emmett Katz and cousins (among others) Davida Andelman and Henry Carrey.

Services will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 1668 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02445. Following the service, the burial will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA 02067. Shiva will be held at the home of his sister Ronda Goodale, 42 Alton Place, Brookline, MA 02446 on Monday June 28 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and Tuesday, June 29 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
