Bernard J. “Bitzy” Bitman, formerly of Swampscott and Concord, MA entered into rest on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at the age of 100. Beloved husband of the late Estelle (Oberman) Bitman, Devoted father of Leslie Bitman and her husband, Paul Cohn, of Concord and Doug Bitman and his wife, Susan Sinclair, of Brookline. Cherished grandfather of Sophie and her husband, Alex Fiksdal of Dedham and of Isabelle and her husband, Matt Neiva, of Cambridge. Loving brother of Rene Davidson of SC and Irving Bitman of NJ. Dear son of the late Max and Kate (Goldman) Bitman.
Bitzy was a kind and humble man, a real “mensch,” with a great sense of humor and the least neurotic person one could ever meet. He loved traveling, jazz, was an American history buff, enjoyed golfing and watching baseball, and spending time with his family.
He and Estelle moved to Swampscott fifty years ago and were very active in their community especially at Temple Emanu-El in Marblehead where Bitzy was a past president. For 18 years he produced Big Band jazz concerts at the Temple, bringing great fun, music and dance to the North Shore.
He was lovable and so very much loved by family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Emanu-El of Marblehead Memorial Park, 16 Buxton Road, Danvers, MA. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 10:30 AM.
Memorial observance at Temple Sinai, 50 Sewall Ave, Brookline, MA. Thursday, August 6th, 5:00-7:00 PM
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or Temple Emanu-El of Marblehead.
