Bernice May Heinstein of Newton, Massachusetts entered into rest on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late Hebert Heinstein. Devoted mother of Jonathan (Wendy) Heinstein of Brookline, Robert (Jennifer) Heinstein of Newton and Steven Heinstein of Los Angeles, CA. Cherished grandmother of Noah, Kaela, Joshua and Brian. The loving sister of Elliot (Lily) Feldman of Washington D.C. and Janet Wasserman of Dallas, Texas. Dear daughter of the late Sarley and Beatrice Feldman.
Bernice was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, graduating from Newton North High School in 1957. She continued her education receiving her BA from Boston University and then earned her Masters of Education from Antioch College in 1978. Upon graduation, Bernice taught in the Watertown and Newton Public Schools, then transitioned into a successful career in Real Estate for over 25 years.
Bernice was a dedicated supporter of many causes and organizations. She and Herb were long members and strong supporters of Temple Emanuel in Newton. Bernice was a vice president of the Kidney Foundation and importantly and dear to her heart, she was very active in Hadassah. Bernice was President of the Hadassah Chestnut Hill Group and Vice President of education, fundraising, and organization for the Boston Chapter. In 1993, she was especially proud to become President of the Boston Chapter of Hadassah, and served on the National Board. Bernice and Herb made many trips to Israel and were honored for their Founders Gift to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.
A voracious reader and writer, she loved fiction novels and kept copious amounts of her own writings documenting culinary recipes, daily activities, and international travel. A world traveler, she enjoyed learning about various cultures. She cherished her time spent with family and friends locally and afar.
A funeral service for Bernice will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 1668 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02445 with interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA. Shiva will be held at the home of Robert and Jennifer Heinstein on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Hadassah, Temple Emanuel of Newton or a charity of your choice.
