died June 22, 2022. Charlotte was born in New York, NY on February 3, 1928. Always a
strong student with a particular aptitude for math, she graduated from high school at 16
and married two years later on her 18th birthday.
Charlotte began working as a bookkeeper in Manhattan before moving to New Haven,
CT and then on to Milford, CT where she raised two sons and a daughter with her
husband, Marty. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who was kind,
appreciative, charming and noticeably quick-witted…even into her 90s. When her
children were grown, she and Marty moved to West Palm Beach, FL where she worked
as the manager of accounts receivable for Florida Power and Light. Upon retiring,
Charlotte volunteered in the accounting department of a nursing home. She was an avid
reader and enjoyed collecting antique cranberry glass. She was also known to eat every
shred of chicken from the bone and devour a plate of cherrystones with gusto. In 2016,
Charlotte moved to Milford, MA to be closer to her sons. Rummikub became her game
of choice in her later years and most of her opponents were hard pressed to beat her.
She was immensely proud of her grandsons and did not let a moment go by without
telling them so.
The fourth of four daughters, Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, Nathan and
Rose Gutzait of the Lower East Side of New York City; her husband Martin Brown of
West Palm Beach, FL, her daughter Shelley Brown of Tucson, AZ, and her sisters Bess
Friedheim of Homewood, IL, Shirley Lass of Queens, NY, and Mollie Kurtz of Margate,
FL. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Arlene Schwartz of West Hartford, CT, her two
sons Kenneth Brown, and his wife Joan Korzec-Brown, of Hopkinton, MA; and Eric
Brown, and his wife Susan Krupp, of Lexington, MA; and her three grandsons, Gregory
Brown, Noah Brown, and Gabriel Brown.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Beit Olam Cemetery in Wayland, MA. In lieu
of flowers, contributions may be made to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger.
