Daniel Irving Kaufman

Daniel “Dave” Kaufman of Dedham, MA, age 96, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019. Born in Worcester, he grew up in Cambridge, raised a family in Newton and then lived in Brookline, Boston, and Dedham. He was the son of the late Alice (Shriear) and Jacob Kaufman and the beloved husband of Ruth (Levitt Banash) Kaufman and the late Cecile “Cele” (Andelman) Kaufman. He was the devoted and wonderful father of Joel M. Kaufman and his wife Carol Goodman Kaufman, Harvey Kaufman and his wife Ellen Glazerman, Amy Kaufman Selame and her husband Ted Selame, Diane Kaufman and her husband David Gitlin, and Lisa Heyison and her husband Michael Heyison, and stepfather of Ellen Banash, and Jane Banash Sagerman and her husband Eric Sagerman. The dear brother of Edith Mitchell and Norman Kaufman, he was predeceased by brother Sol Kaufman and sisters Sylvia Brown, Adeline Levitan, and Dorothy Luchner. He was a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and uncle of many nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Boston University, he spent his entire career at Kaufman Company, the family industrial hardware business, retiring only reluctantly at age 86. His enthusiasm was manifested by the many stories from his work day with which he regaled his family.

Dave Kaufman always had a sparkle in his eye, forging special connections and sharing his unique sense of humor with everyone around him including family, co-workers, fellow residents, and the special people who work at NewBridge. He was a man who taught us by his example to be kind and compassionate to all those whose paths we cross.

Burial is Monday, March 11 at 1PM at Hebrew Progressive Cemetery, 350 Grove Street, West Roxbury.

Memorial Service is at 2:45PM at NewBridge on the Charles, Dedham with shiva following until 9PM. Shiva will continue on Tuesday 2-5PM and 7-9PM, and Wednesday 3-5PM and 7-9PM. I had the pleasure of knowing Dave at NewBridge On The Charles where I worked.
Dave had a funny sense of humor that wasn’t always understood, but he had a kind heart that looked out for the ones he loved and cared about.
He will be remembered by his funny & dry sense of humor.
I send my deepest condolences to his family
