

David Emmanuel Grossman, 85, attorney, died peacefully at his home in Chestnut Hill, surrounded by family, on January 28, 2022. He was born in Boston on September 3, 1936 to the late Sidney and Frances Grossman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jill Brenner Grossman, by his sons and their spouses, Henry Grossman (Susan Covitz), John Grossman (Dawn Cordeiro), and Adam Grossman (Claudine Grossman), and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Blankstein, and her husband, Richard Blankstein and by Dr. Lawrence Perlmuter, husband of Mr. Grossman's late sister, Ina Grossman Perlmuter.
David Grossman spent his formative years in Brookline, Massachusetts. He graduated from Brookline High School, and he went on to Williams College, from which graduated in 1958. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1961 and then served in the United States Army Reserves. For more than 50 years, he practiced law in Boston, starting at Foley Hoag when the firm had under 20 lawyers, and retiring, at age 80, from the firm of Lawson & Weitzen.
He was a devoted family man who loved the outdoors and the pleasures of a grand sunset, fresh snow under his skis, and socializing with friends. He had lifelong friendships with elementary school classmates with whom he shared ski trips, road trips, sailing, growing families, and businesses. He was fiercely loyal to his institutions including Williams College, Harvard Law School, and Temple Emanuel of Newton. He had a running group that included dear friends for over 20 years that met several times a week where he was dubbed “The Mayor of Comm Ave.”
In addition to volunteering with many alumni groups of his cherished institutions, David volunteered for years with a cancer survivor program at Beth Israel Hospital.
