David Jay Hill, age 70, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, after a battle with glioblastoma. David was born on July 10, 1951, to Barney Hill and Rosalyn Hill (née Steinmetz) in Boston, Massachusetts. Raised in Newton, Massachusetts, he graduated from Newton South High School in 1969 and he continued his education at the University of Arizona, earning his degree in Middle Eastern Studies in May 1973.
David is survived by his beloved partner of more than 18 years, Kathryn Niles Seekell, daughter Megan Hill McKennedy and her husband James, granddaughter Emma Rose, son Raymond Seekell and his wife Patricia, daughter Rachael Downey, father Barney Hill and brother Richard Hill. He was cherished by his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. David was preceded in death by his mother in 2008.
David’s career spanned more than fifty years and covered many different professions. He enjoyed owning a drapery business, a children’s clothing line and a bagel shop. He eventually settled in his most loved career as a loan officer for residential mortgages, which he pursued for over thirty years. His true love was working with people, helping them achieve their dreams of home ownership. Making people happy is what made work so rewarding for David.
David left an everlasting impression on everyone he met. He was so giving, always going above and beyond for his friends and family. No one was a stranger for more than a moment, he loved meeting and befriending new people. He had the wonderful ability to remember people and names for years. He treated people with unrelenting generosity and kindness and his energy and light was infectious.
David was a wealth of information, had a thirst for knowledge and would dive into a topic with complete abandon. He loved sharing and teaching others and was a mentor for many. He enjoyed long drives searching for antiques and that novel out of the way place to grab a bite to eat. He loved exploring waterways by kayak or trailblazing by horseback. David had a passion for horses, was a member of the Cross State Trail Riders and owned several rescued racehorses. He loved coaching; he started with coaching boys wrestling for Holliston High School and moved into girls’ club soccer to coach daughter Megan and then daughter Rachael and many others in between. Coach Dave, as they called him, was loved by his players and their parents for his enthusiasm on and off the field.
David enjoyed giving back to his community. For a time, he was active in the Lion’s Club and then later became a mason and member of the Mount Hollis Lodge. He was a proud Master Mason and achieved the honorable third-degree. The Brothers of the Masons have been an extended family to David and their dedication to charity and community were tenants near and dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the David Jay Hill Memorial Fund in care of the Mount Hollis Lodge Memorial Fund, PO Box 6038, Holliston, MA 01746.
