David Peter Simon, of Sudbury, 63, from glioblastoma a rare cancer, which was ironic since David’s research involved calculating probabilities of unlikely events. David was born in Ithaca, New York, and grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He earned a BA from University of Wisconsin, an MBA from University of California Berkeley and a PhD from Columbia University. He started his career as an economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve in Washington, DC and taught finance at Bentley University since 1995. David loved his family, animals, trading options, and the outdoors -- especially the woods, mountains and lakes of New England and the beaches everywhere from Gloucester to Santa Barbara to Sardinia. He is remembered for his sense of humor, innate goodness and individuality, whether it concerned something as trivial as facial hair or as substantive as ethical or intellectual decisions. David was predeceased by his mother, Elena, and brother-in- law Ed, and survived by his wife Helene, children Anna, Rebecca (Zach), and Will (Tania), grandson Emmett, father Ralph (Phillis), brothers Richard (Leslie) and Michael (Kathy) and extended family. Burial will be private, but friends and well-wishers are welcome to share memories at the family residence. Contact [email protected] for information about location and time.
