Passed away peacefully in her home on December 2nd 2022. Dottie, as her friends called her, was born in Framingham, MA and was one of 2 children of Helen and Nathan Dershowitz. After graduating from Smith College Dottie married the love of her life Louis Sternburg. They had 2 children, David Sternburg (Denise) and Susan Sternburg (Jim) Shortly after Susan was born their life took a drastic turn when Louis contracted polio and was left paralyzed. Dottie made a decision at that time that she was not going to bring up her children in a “sick” house and made their home a warm welcoming place where friends were always present. Dottie threw fabulous get-togethers including costume parties and movie nights, She was devoted to Louis and their children and her house was the hub for all of their wonderful friends.
Dottie had many interests and particularly enjoyed a challenging bridge match as well as a good game of golf which she mostly played with woman who were quite a bit younger. She had a sharp mind which was used to run a business with Louis and to support him as he got a Masters and PhD. Dottie and Louis also wrote a book about their lives in collaboration with Monica Dickens called “View From The Seesaw”. Dottie actively supported various charities, particularly The Israel Tennis Centers. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren Lena, Lily and Max.
Dottie was extremely independent and engaging, she lived life the way she wanted - always and until the very end. She had strong opinions and was never afraid to share them. Her laughter was contagious and the sound of it will remain in our memories forever.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 6 at 11am at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA 02446. Interment to follow at Mishkan Tefila Memorial Park, West Roxbury, MA.
