Edith Mavor, 83, of Newton, MA passed away on Sunday, January 4th, quietly in her sleep. She was born on May 12, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of Morris and Pearl Eichenbaum.
Edith was the beloved spouse of Michael Mavor, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage before his passing. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, she lived a life marked by service and advocacy. She worked with her local school committee, advocated for causes important to her, walked in protest marches, and worked to save and memorialize one of the oldest Jewish temples in rural America as a historical landmark.
She is survived by her two children, Jason Mavor and his wife Shoshana Mavor of Newton, MA and Frieda Mavor and her husband David Inman of Monroe, ME; and her four cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Claudia, Sawyer, and Sarah, who brought her great joy and pride.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Temple Beth Israel Preservation Society, in honor of Edith’s life and legacy.
