

Born in Roxbury, 1923, son of the late Abraham & Ida (Lendman) Bander. Beloved husband of the late Frances (Waite) Bander and companion to the late Tema Nason. Loving father of Lida & Richard McGirr and David and Steven Bander. Adored grandfather of Daniel and Jeffrey McGirr. Dear brother of the late Natalie Davis and Sidney Bander.
Edward joined the Navy in 1942, served on the USS Bangust, DE 739, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a graduate of Boston University College of Liberal Arts and the Law School (1949-1951). He was a law librarian at Harvard Law School, the United States Court of Appeals, New York University Law School and Suffolk Law School (emeritus). Mr. Bander published books on Finley Peter Dunne, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Justice Holmes. His novel, The Hidden History of Essex Law School was published in 2010 and his last publication, Dating at 91, was featured in the Boston Sunday Globe Magazine Section. Mr. Bander was president of Law Librarians of New England and the Law Library Association of Greater New York. In 2007, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Law Librarians of New England.
Services at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Wednesday, December 23 at 11:30am. Burial in the Shara Tfilo Cemetery, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury.
Memorial observance following the interment through 8pm at his late residence.
