Elaine Inker (nee Hamilt), a nurturing mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2022 at the age of 88. Elaine grew up in Revere, Massachusetts with her parents, brother, and sister. To earn her way through Simmons College, her glamour and lovely voice enabled her to work in Boston clubs as a chanteuse. Elaine went to Simmons College for her undergraduate degree and for her masters of social work. As a clinical social worker, she had a long career in both hospital settings and private practice.
After Elaine married Monroe Inker, a prominent Boston attorney, they settled happily in West Newton for more than fifty years. Besides their children and grandchildren, their great joy was traveling the world together, from Paris to New Guinea. Following her husband’s death in 2006, she completed a certificate in film studies at Boston University. She also continued to share her love of music with her family and as a prime mover for the Newton Singers. She enjoyed summers with her family on Martha’s Vineyard.
Elaine was fearless, humbled only by beauty and wonder. She will be profoundly missed.
She is survived by her children, Lauren Inker and her husband Richard Blank of Needham, MA; Rachel Inker and her husband Christian Brown of Jericho, VT; grandchildren Samuel Blank, Margo Blank, Lily Brown, Mya Brown, and Peter Brown; and her brother Arthur Hamilt of Vienna, VA. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Henry and Gertrude Hamilt, her sister Marilyn Havian, and her husband Monroe Inker.
Her funeral and burial service will be held in Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St. Sharon on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 1:00pm. Shiva (visiting hours) will be observed in her home immediately following the interment on Sunday until 8pm and both Monday and Tuesday from 5 to 8pm.
