Eleanor Pauline (Chansky) Andler of Newton formerly of Brighton on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale, where she lived and was cared for by a loving staff for three years.
Eleanor was married to her beloved husband, the late Irving Andler, of 39 years. She was the loving mother of Judy Andler of Cambridge, and Rise Liskov and her husband Richard of Riverdale, NY. Eleanor was a devoted grandmother to Liza, Alan, Aaron and David; and leaves behind her sister, Deena Weir of Foxboro, and brother, David Chansky, of Alpharetta, GA. Eleanor also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. All remained in her heart through her last days.
Eleanor was born on Lawrence Ave. in Dorchester. She was the loving daughter of Jacob and Rose Chansky, who ran the Brunswick Street Kosher Meat Market on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury. She grew up around the corner on Devon Street, where Eleanor and Irving were married in 1947and began raising their family. Eleanor graduated from the Jeremiah Burke High School for Girls in 1945.
Eleanor and Irving moved to Newton in 1952. Eleanor’s love for her family, friends and her Jewish heritage were the center of her life. She carried this out daily in her home and through her dedication to Temple Emanuel, where she committed so much of her energy, wisdom and faith.
Eleanor worked with Irving in their family business until 1971, then as an Administrative Assistant at Meadowbrook Junior High School and finally at Newton North High School for where she remained for15 years. At Newton North, her coworkers also became her friends and family. She retired in 1994 after 15 years.
Most importantly, Eleanor was a caregiver to her family and friends in the truest sense. She was always there for someone who was ill and needed food, errands or company. She will be truly missed.
Services will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Sunday, November 17 at 11:30AM. Burial will follow at Temple Emanuel Memorial Park, 497 North St., Randolph.

Following the burial a gathering to celebrate Eleanor will follow at Dedham Hilton, 25 Allied Dr., Dedham.
