Eleanor (Goldstein) Cohen, 97, of Brookline, formerly of Marblehead, died peacefully on February 18, 2025. Born in Boston, Eleanor was the daughter of Benjamin and Clara Goldstein. She was a proud graduate of Boston University.
Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years, Dr. Merrill Cohen. They were longtime residents of Marblehead, living for 68 years in the same home where they raised their family. She leaves behind her three children: Mark Cohen, Steven Cohen and his wife, Karen, and Linda Ben-Ezra and her husband, Ami; five grandchildren: Kimberly Neil, David Cohen, Allison Pearlstein, Daniel Ben-Ezra and Dalia Yaniv; and seven great-grandchildren: Griffin Neil, Bennett Neil, Lily Neil, Kobe Russell, Eva Cohen, Olivia Cohen, and Mia Pearlstein. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Weiner.
In addition to spending time with her family, Eleanor loved spending time in Ogunquit, Maine, particularly meeting with her friends and family on the white sandy beach, walking the Marginal Way and shopping in Perkins Cove, Kennebunkport, and Kittery. She and Merrill were members of the Ogunquit Playhouse and attended many opening night cast parties. Eleanor and Merrill enjoyed traveling worldwide and on numerous occasions visited their favorite places in Hawaii, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone Park, Tahiti, Florida, the Caribbean, and Europe, shopping for antiques and family gifts all the while. Eleanor was also a voracious reader, spending her years reading at various libraries in and around Marblehead and Brookline. She was also very active in the Garden Club and took many classes even in her 80’s at the Explorers Lifetime Learning Institute of Salem State University.
Funeral services were held privately. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Eleanor’s memory to Hebrew SeniorLife’s CCB 100 Centre Library Fund, c/o Hebrew Senior Life, Attn: Development Office, 1200 Centre Street, Boston, MA 02131,
